Tim DeQuatro - Sultry Nights
Hair that hints at sultry nights in New Orleans, fragrant
Lilacs,
Queen Anne’s lace and sideways smiles given
Wearing next to nothing
Your skin a milky bounty silky slides across
My course monkey frame
This ape draped in finest fabrics by the Grace of You
Your fingers playing symphonies along my spine,
That you make up on the spot nearly every night for me alone
A prodigy who’ll play for me alone
Feeling weak, with every kiss you steal my breath
Only to give it back when you look my way
Warmth within, the reason why your smile makes me sweat;
A volcano’s worth of heat that beckons me
Your face, a flower blooming in the sunlight of your smile
I too could receive nutrition in this way
Even dandelions crave a little direct smile
Biding moonlight has found its mate within your eyes
An albedo that will outclass its own shine
Blinding these browned, seaweed-colored portals to my soul,
‘Til I must look away, but won’t; would rather a
Sightless life with my last vision being one of you
Than have to turn away and see less cheerful things
Russet crescents sparkling, without the moon
They might glow on their own
Without the moon, I’d still find my way home
You’re in my bones, your laugh
Replacing marrow, dry and dead
I’ve never felt this well before
Your breath a rhythm I must dance, my clumsy feet
Attempt to trace its steps, rising falling
Heavily I feel the ground around me shiver
Like I do, when I feel it through my fingers
When I feel your pulse-rate quicken at my touch
Rough and fumbling, like cream manipulated with a hammer
But you flush and part your lips and race
About my mind, like a hummingbird you hover
The definition of perfection; of a lover.
