Michele Mitchell - Songs of Solomon
|
I hover over the negative spaces of entwined
indigo figures.
I feel a breeze in between my fingers.
the sweat on my spine
suddenly becomes cool.
I feel a mist in the air
your fingers in my hair
our deep breathing serenades me over
flowing green hills
speckled with mimosa trees
and a effervescent stream winds
down and opens
to an mountainside river where
women in tangerine and olive
flowing robes are baptizing
their future husbands while
quoting the songs of Solomon.
His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me…
That ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. The voice of my beloved!
behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains (Song of Solomon 2:6, 7b-8).
