G.A. Buchholz - Silence Ascending
|
She bends color and cuts light
Her hands extend into quickening thoughts
Shaping phrases into choral voices
Eyes scan vastly across the echoing green canyons of possibility
And with a few small gestures from her ringed fingers
She forges the morning dreams that make us wake suddenly
And breathe forbidden joy
While she holds flame to the wick of a scented candle,
Waiting, waiting, waiting
Until the risk of burning is equal to the birth of light.
The recommended breaking of her heart
Broke stained windows, and loosed forbidden skies
That hailed meteorites of ice upon tilted desks and rotting libraries
And now, she sits across from me upon the floor
Our space cleansed by rivers of tea, wax, music and incense,
And after a few moments, her lightest touch descends upon my hands.
An audible silence ascends, perfectly pronounced
As a child’s question; and in that absence of words she speaks what I must hear
And though I hear, and understand
Her lips have never moved, nor parted
