Welcome to Mastodon Dentist!

Hello and Welcome to Mastodon Dentist. The name is taken from Henry Miller's Tropic of
Capricorn. We continue to define what that means to us, with the help of all of the wonderful
contributors over the years. I've taken it to mean the conspicuous brilliance that stands out in an
otherwise nondescript room, much like Mr. Miller's desk.
What I mean by that is a poetic aesthetic that I continue to define as editor. I believe that less is
more and that sometimes one can try too hard. I look for the ability to communicate something real
when I read a piece of writing, I long to be surprised, thrilled, floored. Honesty and purity of
thought, the freedom of emotion, the only limitations placed on the sublime and surreal being one's
own boundaries of experience. We try not to get into political, religious or social debates.
As an editor I reserve the privilege of making comments and suggestions to help you hone your
work to our ideal. I will offer to make grammar and spelling corrections -- I don't believe in just
disqualifying work that isn't perfect.
